P.Sudan-Mohamed Qol-P.Sudan |
Another nice date with the Red Sea: it’s not too hot, beautiful and stable weather, pleasant breezes, calm sailing. Sea temperature has not excessively increased yet as it will happen under the summer sun. A beautiful one-way cruise, a cruise tested by now, where all the most beautiful reefs of the Sudanese coast are reached, reducing the navigation miles. Departure of this cruise is from Mohamed Qol.
embark: Mohamed Qol lagoon |
At arrival at the airport, handled the entrance
procedures and collected the luggage, we leave Northbound, along a well paved
road. The landscape is flat, crowns of mountains parade westward, expanses of
sand dotted with bushes and acacia eastward. 130 Km. from P. Sudan easily
travelled in two hours and a half. Once arrived to Mohamed Qol, Sherazade waits
in the small lagoon in front of the village. At sunrise, weighted anchor,
during sailing, passed the golden island of Mesharifa, we’ll go through the
famous manta ray channel and only in a couple of hours sailing we’ll get to
Shambaia, the heart, the centre of the highly praised North, within Abington,
the reef with the lighthouse, Angarosh with its small sandy island and Merlo.
After the first days diving up north, thus conquered
without any effort, the descent is left, in favour of the sea and wind:
following one another dives at Qita el Banna, the great pinnacle, Suedi the
reefs of the Blue Bell wreck, getting to the amazing Sha’ab Rumi, Sanganeb with
its famous lighthouse up to ending in style at the Umbria, along the corridors
and rooms of the magical wreck. We still have time to take a walk around the
Suk, just before taking off for the airport, to perceive smells and colours,
even if with a small taste of this Africa.
